RETREATS, WORKSHOPS AND OTHER LEARNING JOURNEYS
Backyard Plant Medicine III:
Wild Spring Greens and Medicine
with Master Teacher Scotty Karas
On Saturday April 20 from 10 AM to 4 PM, we will hold our Spring medicinal plant workshop. Scotty Karas will be back as our wonderful, knowledgeable teacher and chef as this time we delve into the world of wild, Spring greens. The workshop will begin in circle and then move out on to the property as we take a plant walk and learn who has popped out of the ground during the early moments of Spring. While we are out on the land, we will gather all sorts of wild, medicinal plants to make a wild salad. When we return, Scotty will go into the medicinal qualities as well the nutrients each plant will provide. Following a yummy vegetarian lunch (bring whatever food you want to add to your luncheon), we will learn about a new medicine derived from what is currently growing on the land. we will conclude with a closing circle. It's going to a beautiful time together. We hope you will join us!

Scotty Karas is the founder of Deep Roots Nature Education. After completing his degree in engineering, he began studying permaculture, herbalism, yoga, wild foods, and primitive skills in 2008 and has never looked back. He has his Permaculture Design Certification with Living Routes in Massachusetts and completed a 450 hour herbal medicine program at the Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine.
Over the last years, Scotty has immersed himself in nature awareness and naturalist studies through the self-study Kamana Program offered by the Wilderness Awareness School. Each year Scott seeks to broaden his horizons and bio-diversify his diet by growing and
wildcrafting new foods and herbs and learning to identify and use different local plants.
By connecting to the source of his food and medicine and getting to know the local flora and fauna, Scotty finds a great and satisfying connection to the earth. He currently mentors youth in nature connection and education with the Forests Floor Wilderness Programs in Asheville, NC and teaches classes on permaculture, herbalism, and wild foraging at Villagers, a homesteading store and education outlet.
